Children

The Children’s Committee was created in 1979, International Children’s Year. Its objective is raising awareness of children’s issues such as their rights, education, their relationship with their parents.. Through Justice and Peace, the Committee has been a member of the Bureau International Catholique de l’Enfance since 1980. Its activities highlight respect for the rights of children contained in the 1989 United Nations Children’s Rights Convention.

In 1997 the Committee’s longtime secretary, Jordi Cots, was appointed Catalonia’s Assistant Ombudsman for Children. His work at Justice and Peace was a decisive factor in his being named to the post.

The Committee works to raise awareness of children’s rights through a number of activities: the publication of a bulletin, butlletí (in catalan) participation in associations and coalitions, contact with government agencies and public events such as lectures and press conferences.
